GENDER AND DIVERSITY
Ghent University conducts an equal opportunities policy and encourages everyone to apply. Ghent University also strives for a gender balance. Female applications are thus especially welcomed.
After the final application date, all received applications will be sent to the faculty selection committee for this vacancy. After a pre-selection on the basis of the submitted and assessed as admissible application files, the selection committee may hear the candidates about their vision and planning regarding education, research and services. It is also possible to organize a trial lesson or a presentation on a subject in the relevant field. Afterwards, the committee will rank the suitable candidates and present this ranking to the Faculty Board. The advice of the Faculty Board will then be presented to the University Board for approval.
Candidates are also asked to discuss their top 5 most important publications or other academic achievements with the highest impact (in the application form). Next to academic publications, the candidate is thus also able to show merit of knowledge transfer by academic dissemination, social valorisation, public awareness, seminars or conference presentations. These competences are also taken into account when evaluating the candidates.
Based on this consideration, a shortlist of relevant candidates will be drawn up who will be invited for further selection. They will be invited to provide the following documents: (1) a text (max. 1500 words) in which the applicant explains his/her vision on research, education and scientific service with regard to the position to be filled, (2) a portfolio with additional information on the teaching competences and (3) a research proposal (max. 1500 words) on the research the applicant wishes to set up concretely within the research field of audiovisual translation. The research proposal should include at least the following components: background; objectives/questions; method; expected results; feasibility. Shortlisted candidates will also be invited for a trial lesson and an interview with the assessment committee. Following this, the assessment committee will rank the suitable candidates and submit them to the Faculty Council for its opinion. The Faculty Council’s recommendation will be submitted to the University Board for approval.
The evaluation of the required international mobility is broad and partly takes the gender perspective into account, thus not only considering longer stays abroad but also other forms of internationalisation.
Pregnancy leave, prolonged sick leave, parental leave, filial leave or other forms of absence are taken into account when evaluating the time available for the creation of academic output.
