The role

We are looking to recruit Associate Lecturers in Translation, in the School of Languages and Applied Linguistics at the Open University

The position is part-time Your final FTE will depend on how many module groups you will be allocated. It is likely to be 0.2.

Students study Translation at postgraduate level in our MA Translation. This consists of three consecutive modules: L801 Translation Theory and Practice, L802 Translation in Practice and L803 Translation Project.

Students choose one language out of Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and translate this language in or out of English. They study a substantial amount of translation theory and employment related topics. As a tutor, you would have a group of students working in and out of English and your teaching language, and support them with all academic aspects of their study with the module materials, understanding and applying translation theory, writing commentaries etc. Tutors also take it in turns to moderate topic forums advising students from all languages in greater depths on specialist topics. The starting full-time salary is £34,304 paid pro rata based on your FTE. Although most of the teaching occurs between October and June, the position is paid over the full calendar year
