OPPORTUNITY FOR AN ASSISTANT, ASSOCIATE OR FULL PROFESSOR OF TRANSLATION STUDIES. FULL-TIME, TENURE-TRACK POSITION SPECIALIZING IN JAPANESE TRANSLATION TO BEGIN AUGUST 2022.

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL TEACH JAPANESE-ENGLISH TRANSLATION WORKSHOP COURSES AT THE M.A. LEVEL, AS WELL AS NON-LANGUAGE SPECIFIC TRANSLATION COURSES AT THE MASTER’S AND DOCTORAL LEVELS WITHIN THE INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZED TRANSLATION PROGRAM OF THE DEPARTMENT OF MODERN AND CLASSICAL LANGUAGE STUDIES AT KENT STATE UNIVERSITY.

Minimum Qualifications:

 PH.D. IN HAND BY DATE OF APPOINTMENT; NATIVE OR NEAR-NATIVE PROFICIENCY IN ENGLISH AND JAPANESE; RECORD OF RESEARCH OR A FOCUSED RESEARCH AGENDA IN TRANSLATION STUDIES; DEMONSTRATED ABILITY TO DEVELOP AND TEACH GRADUATE COURSES IN JAPANESE-ENGLISH TRANSLATION AND IN TRANSLATION STUDIES. PROFESSIONAL TRANSLATION EXPERIENCE, TRACK RECORD OF PUBLICATION, ABILITY TO TEACH UPPER-DIVISION UNDERGRADUATE COURSES IN JAPANESE CULTURE, AND WILLINGNESS AND ABILITY TO DEVELOP NEW SKILLS BASED ON PROGRAMMATIC NEEDS ARE HIGHLY DESIRABLE.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
