[Job Vacancy] Assistant Professor of French Traductology and Translation – 2022
The Department of French, Hispanic and Italian Studies at The University of British Columbia (Vancouver) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Traductology and Translation with focus on French to English or English to French translation. Expertise in one or more of the following areas will be an asset: syntax, morphology, lexicology, semantics, terminology, and/or stylistics. Other assets are: expertise in literary translation, first-hand knowledge of the world of professional translation in Canada, and practice of translation between French or English and another Romance language (Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Catalan). The anticipated start date is July 1, 2022.
The ideal candidate will actively engage in the intellectual life of the department, enhance our course offerings in translation and linguistics, and contribute to the Faculty of Arts’ commitment to foster international engagement and cultivate intercultural understanding among our students. The position entails a teaching load of 4 courses per year (12 credits).
A completed PhD in Translation or Linguistics (or equivalent degree) is required at the start date of the appointment (July 1, 2022). Candidates must have native or near-native fluency in French, as well as an excellent command of English, and must be able to demonstrate strong evidence of an ongoing commitment to academic and teaching excellence. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an active program of research leading to peer-reviewed publications and the securing of external research funding, and to contribute to the education and training of undergraduate as well as graduate students.

This position is subject to final budgetary approval. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
