Job Title : Associate Professor Company : Durham University
Department : School Of Modern Languages And Cultures Position Type : Academic
Grade 9 (£50,618 – £56,950)
This post is full-time and permanent.

The School of Modern Languages and Cultures at Durham University seeks to appoint a talented individual to the role of Associate Professor in Translation. We welcome applications from those with research and teaching interests in the broad field of Translation and Literary Studies, and we are particularly eager to hear from applicants who have expertise in Italian literature and cultural history.

The School’s research strategy identifies translation – understood in its widest sense – as the intellectual underpinning of research in Modern Languages and Cultures. The post-holder will be expected to provide leadership in this area. This post offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the School’s vision of an integrated approach to Modern Languages and Cultures, by drawing together research interests and expertise across the School in the history, theory and practice of translation, as well as in the deployment of translation as a core research skill underpinning work in the School’s identified areas of research excellence (Medieval and Early Modern Studies, Visual Art and Culture, and the Sciences and the Humanities). S/he will contribute to the planned redevelopment of the MA in Translation Studies, by overseeing its integration with the School’s other taught MA programmes (in Visual Arts and Culture and in Literature, Language and Culture), and by leading the development of a focus on translation for the cultural and heritage sectors. The post-holder will also contribute to current thinking on the place of translation in the undergraduate curriculum as part of the School’s ongoing commitment to curriculum review and reform.

This post offers an exciting opportunity to make a major contribution to the development of internationally excellent research and teaching while allowing you unrivalled opportunities to progress and embed your career in an exciting and progressive institution.
