Soon to be announced! PhD position in Translation Studies with a focus on interpreting at the Department of Swedish Language and Multilingualism (Institute for Interpreting and Translation Studies). Closing date: 15 April 2016.
The successful applicant will work within the project “Invisible process – cognition and working memory in dialogue interpreting” (VR 2016–01118) which studies the cognitive processes involved in the communicatively and linguistically complex situation of dialogue interpreting. This is a new research area and the project can be characterized as basic research.
The research questions deal with the cognitive resources of the dialogue interpreter, more specifically the monitoring functions, compared to other types of interpreting, as well as the interpreter’s strategies to cope with cognitive load. The project will use a combination of quantitative and qualitative empirical methods.
The successful applicant holds a Master degree in Translation Studies, Linguistics, Bilingualism, or a language. She/he needs to have working knowledge of Swedish and in one of the languages French and/or Spanish. Furthermore, the applicant should have working proficiency in English on a level that enables her or him to write research reports and articles in English.
The applicant needs to enclose a research plan, covering the applicant’s planned contribution to research within the project “The invisible process – cognition and working memory in dialogue interpreting”. The plan should contain identification of a research problem, theoretical framework and suggested methodology for data collection and data analysis.
