Brief Description

The School of Literature, Language and Media is seeking to employ a Senior Lecturer/Lecturer or Associate Lecturer in Interpreting Studies. Candidates should have experience in training liaison, consecutive and simultaneous interpreters, have native or near native competence in English and at least one other language, preferably two, and be able to handle training across a range of language combinations

 

Requirements for the position of Senior Lecturer/Lecturer:
• PhD in Interpreting
• Teaching experience in the field
• Working languages: English plus another South African language, French, Portuguese, and/or SASL

AIIC accreditation will be an advantage.

 

Requirements for the position of Associate Lecturer:
• MA in Interpreting
• Teaching experience in the field
• Working languages: English plus another South African language, French, Portuguese, and/or SASL.A candidate for the Associate Lecturer position will be required to register (or be registered) for a PhD.

 

The successful applicant will be required to:
• teach the theory and practice of interpreting at postgraduate level;
• develop and modify the interpreting curriculum as needed;
• be involved in the development of the field and in the professional interpreting environment;
• be keen to advance the discipline;
• supervise postgraduate students;
• participate in the administration of the department and at School level; and
• take part in the intellectual life of the School and University.

Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience.
